A recent trip to Christchurch for the Mainlands South Island Volleyball tournament proved a huge success for our Senior Blues team.
Arriving on Thursday to a blistering 20 degrees, the 10 boys had a little downtime for a BBQ and a good night’s rest before it all kicked off. Friday morning was an early start, with three games ahead of the team; all of which saw victory for the Blues. Saturday was another successful day of wins, that left the team to return Sunday competing for the top spots in the semi-final.
A challenging win against Riccarton gave our students a couple of hours rest before the Final against Marlborough Boys’ in the afternoon. Slightly tired and looking a little worse for wear after so many games, our Blues rallied together and managed to secure the first place in their division against a very strong side.
A huge thanks to our coach Simon Ma’ole whose support of this sport at Otago Boys’ allows it to function and flourish the way it has; the evidence of his efforts in the trophy the Blues brought home Sunday night.
Barely a chance for a rest, the team is preparing for Otago Champs this weekend and then the National Volleyball Tournament in Week 9.
