As many of you will be aware there are two significant changes being introduced to the New Zealand education system, the ‘New Zealand Curriculum Refresh’ and the ‘NCEA Change Programme’.
The current New Zealand Curriculum is undergoing a ‘refresh’, its first since implementation in 2007. The first phase of this was the introduction of the Aotearoa New Zealand’s Histories curriculum earlier this year. An updated curriculum for the 7 other learning areas will be rolled out over the next 3 years with full implementation required by 2026.
There are seven planned changes to strengthen NCEA , this is referred to as the NCEA Change Programme and will also be rolled out in stages over the coming three years. 2024 will see the first of these changes introduced, with new requirements for students to meet Level 1 NCEA, the qualification completed by Year 11 students. It is important to note that all current Year 11 - 13 students will continue with the existing NCEA system.
We feel that these changes present an opportunity for us to review and reflect on our current junior programmes and potentially make some changes to ensure our learners are well-prepared to be successful here at Otago Boys' and in their lives beyond school. We would appreciate your feedback and thoughts on our current school curriculum by completing this survey. Please click on the highlighted words 'this survey' in the previous sentence to access the survey. This form will close at 3pm on Wednesday, the 5th of April.
We will continue to provide updates on the NZ Curriculum Refresh and Implementation of the NCEA Change Programme, including a parent information evening in term three to explain how the new framework will work for our current Year 10 students as they enter NCEA Level 1 in 2024.
