Congratulations to Year 10 student Neo Salomonsson, and Year 11 student Taka Sugiyama, who competed in the National Age Group Swimming Championships held in Hawkes Bay over the holidays.

Neo (male, 14 years) had a great outing, breaking two Otago records and picking up two silver medals!

In the 200m Butterfly he won silver, and swam a 9 second PB in the final. In the 100m Butterfly he came 5th but broke the Otago Age Group record with a time of 1:01.10 (the previous record was 1:01.43, set in 2015). In the 50m Butterfly he came 4th but broke his own Otago record (27.78) which he set a month ago in the heat session with a time of 27.59. He then broke it again with a time of 27.51 in the final.

Taka qualified for the final for 100m Breaststroke, produced a nice long course PB, and placed 9th. In the 50m Butterfly he swam a 0.4 second PB but didn’t place in top 10.

Neo and Taka swam in the 4 x 100m medley relay where each of the swimmers swam their strength stroke (breaststroke for Taka, butterfly for Neo), both swam PB times and placed second to earn themselves silver!
