The Gateway experience is well underway.
This week we are profiling Johnathon King. In Year 12, Johnathon is the second student to be hosted by The Princes Street Butchery. Thomas Scurr was our first in 2022. This business has a real focus on using local products and adding value to them.
Here is what Johnathon has to say about his placement.
Every Thursday I go to the Princes Street Butchery on the Gateway experience to learn new skills. Every time I go there, I learn another skill that I can use for future purposes.
In the short amount of time I have been going out, I have learnt many valuable skills such as sausage making, breaking down lambs, communication skills, and knife skills.
The 3 people who run Princess Street Butchery every day are some of the best people you can meet. They are friendly with all of their customers who come in, they know what they are talking about and give the best advice.
These are the skills that I have learnt and what I have done:
Blowing the sausage meat and linking the sausages.
Break down lamb carcass and legs.
Make multiple types of homemade hot pies and sandwiches.
Make family box meals from scratch.
