Wednesday saw the 3 cross country relay teams heading down to Milton for the relay there.
A significantly colder day combined with soft ground made this a hard run and there were some sore legs at the end of their races.
The teams were supposed to be unchanged from the last race, but the night before Gus fell ill and had to be replaced by Max MacLachlan, a tennis player whose recent running consisted of 30 metre sprints across a tennis court.
In a quick team meeting it was decided to keep the B Team unchanged and make a straight swap of Gus for Max so our running order was;
First placed Senior A - Matthew Bolter, Max MacLachlan, Ruie Hyslop and Jake Owen.
Fourth placed Senior B - Hugo Barsby, Tom Dunn, Sam Hughes and Bruno Hare.
Third placed Junior - Leo Garden, Alex Glover, Robert Lloyd and Henry Hodgson.
All of the runners ran fantastically well with Matt, Hugo and Leo getting all their teams off to a great start.
Matt ran the fastest time of the day with 5 minutes 38 seconds for a bit under 2 km. Year 9 Robert Lloyd had his first run back from injury and ran a very respectable race. Ruie running from behind for the first time this season put in a very fast 5 minutes 55 seconds on par with Jake; both of whom were the fastest runners of their respective legs. Henry Hodgson was the fastest of our Juniors and kept up with most of the seniors with a great time of 6 minutes 54 seconds.
Hugo, Bruno and Sam all ran very fast legs (around 6 minutes 30 seconds) but were undone by Trinity Catholic College's lead runner who kept up with Matthew Bolter for most of their leg and the gap was too big for them to run down.
The boys have one more individual race on Thursday, 8 June before Jake and Matthew head off to the national competition up in Palmerston North.
