Swimming success

The pool is the new beach for our boys that participated in the recent Otago Secondary School Championships (28 May) and the Neptune King’s Birthday Meet (3 - 4 June).

"If you can walk, you can swim!” is the mind-set of the competitive swimmers, our triathletes and surf-life savers who have all been racing two weekends in a row.

The Otago Secondary School Championships ran in a single fast-paced session, giving the swimmers little rest and recovery time. The competition was fierce but collectively the boys did well:

Neo Salomonsson:
1st - 50 & 100 Backstroke, 50 Freestyle, 100 & 200 Individual Medley, 50, 100 & 200 Butterfly

In his eight individual swims, Neo broke six Otago Secondary School records (all but 100 back and 200 fly).

Aleks, Taka, Neo and Max also participated in the medley relay, where they placed second after Dunstan High School.

The swimmers recently moved from the long course (50m pool) into the short course (25m pool) season. During the King’s birthday weekend, Neo continued his record-breaking streak in the butterfly events, and added his first 2023 short course record in 50m butterfly for 14 year old males. With a time of 27.25 seconds, he broke the record set in 2014 with 0.1 second. During this swim meet, Taka and Aleks made a big splash and continued to rack up new NZ short course qualification times. Neo, Taka and Aleks each have multiple qualification times for the NZ short course championships that will be held in Hawkes Bay in early August.

Just keep swimming boys!
