This week a selection of our Year 10 and 11 students completed the first round of NCEA corequisite exams for both literacy and numeracy as part of the Level One NCEA Change Programme scheduled for full implementation in 2024.
Students completed an online digital exam and if successful in meeting the criteria will gain credits towards their future level one qualification. We will be running more opportunities for students to complete these exams later this year.
The new literacy and numeracy requirement for NCEA level one is explained as follows by the Ministry of Education.
As of 2024, in order to be awarded NCEA, learners will need to achieve a 20-credit co-requisite using either the new literacy and numeracy, te reo matatini and pāngarau standards or a small list of essential literacy and numeracy-rich assessment standards.

Well done to all those boys who took part in these exams.
For further details about the NCEA Change Programme, we invite you to refer to our previous newsletter article, accessible through this link. Below, we have highlighted some of the key elements covered in the article.
There are seven planned changes to strengthen NCEA , this is referred to as the NCEA Change Programme and will also be rolled out in stages over the coming three years. 2024 will see the first of these changes introduced, with new requirements for students to meet Level 1 NCEA, the qualification completed by Year 11 students. It is important to note that all current Year 11 - 13 students will continue with the existing NCEA system.
We will continue to provide updates on the NZ Curriculum Refresh and Implementation of the NCEA Change Programme, including a parent information evening in term three to explain how the new framework will work for our current Year 10 students as they enter NCEA Level 1 in 2024.
