It was a fantastic night for OBHS at the Otago Sports Awards last Friday, 9 June. Many OBHS students and old boys were acknowledged throughout the night.
Congratulations to Henry Kirk, James Gardner, Hamish Faulks and the OBHS 1st Touch team all being nominated for different categories. It was also great to see a number of OBHS old boys and ex-staff also being nominated.
Congratulations to Hamish Faulks who won the Emerging Talent Individual Boys Award. A testament to his hard work and dedication in the sport of Touch, and clear indication of his skill and talent. Also, the OBHS 1st Touch team who won the Emerging Talent Team Award, for their successful campaign in winning the New Zealand Secondary School Touch National title in December last year. They are also only the second South Island school in the history of this national event to win this title, and the first from this region. Special thanks to our parents Andrea Faulks, Clare Challis, and Shannon Booth who managed the team at nationals and also Assistant Principal Mr Vai Mahutariki who was one of the coaches alongside Mr Jarrod Powell.
Special mention to ex-staff member Brent Matahaere who won Coach of the Year and old boy Sam Timmins who won Sportsman of the Year. It was great to see Royce Wilson receive the Service to Sport Award - we thank you for the many years you have put into Rowing but also the support you have given many OBHS rowers over the years.
Overall it was a great night for Otago Sport and OBHS.
