Yesterday, the Senior Te Ao Haka and Maori class supported by a number from the Junior class attended the Southern Regional Manu Kōrero Competition held here in Dunedin in the Town Hall.
A competition for Māori students to compete in various speech competitions included students from schools as far as North Otago down to Southland. OBHS had two boys competing, with Year 9 Marley Leevey competing in the Te Rāwhiti Ihākā Section (Junior Maori language speech) and Year 13 Dennis Kristel competing in the Korimako Section (Senior English language speech).
Both boys presented and delivered their speeches with honour and excellence. Marley finished a well deserved 4th. Dennis who as per the competition competed in two sections, delivering an outstanding prepared speech and an excellent impromptu speech, finishing 2nd in the impromptu speech and 3rd overall which is a great result.
OBHS joined OGHS in supporting each others speakers on stage and at the conclusion of all the speeches, performed our school haka to acknowledge their peers hard work and effort on the stage.
Thank you to Assistant Principal Matua Vai Mahutariki for supporting all our boys in their efforts.
