Last weekend, OBHS swimmers Neo Salomonsson, Taka Sugiyama, Aleks Kivilev, Bogdan Bramley, Toby Hill and Max McCaul, took part in the Otago short course championships held at Moana pool.
In addition to winning his seven individual events, Neo showed his dominance in the short course pool by taking down a 10 year old 50m backstroke Otago record and lowering his own previous record in 50m butterfly set only a few weeks ago. He has now broken 10 Otago records in the current season!
The focus of Taka and Aleks was to achieve a 200 IM qualifying time for the NZ short course championships held in August. A goal that both of them achieved! Taka in particular had a very successful meet where he placed first in four of his six individual events and placed second and third in the other two.
Max and Toby swam two events each and produced personal bests all around.
On the relay side, Neo and Bogdan were teamed up in the mixed gender relays and earned themselves first place in both the freestyle and medley relays. Taka and Aleks participated in the mens' relays for their respective clubs, where Taka and his team placed first in both the freestyle and medley relay and Aleks second in the freestyle relay.
Neo and Taka are looking forward to the NZ secondary school championships held in late July, where they will team up and represent OBHS in the 2 x 50m freestyle relay.
