Throughout Gateway this year I have had the privilege of being hosted by ex-Old Boy Aaron Ritchie and his team at Stevenson & Williams Ltd.
Since starting Gateway in March, I have been on-site at St Hilda’s helping with their new build on a Friday under supervision.
I have learned the skills of measuring and cutting accurately. I have gained the confidence to safely use electrical and battery-operated tools. Installing pink batts and putting up gib has required precision.
By having work experience every Friday throughout the year I have gained a good understanding of the job and learned some great skills. I would highly recommend getting involved with the Gateway program as it gives you an insight and understanding of the workplace environment.

Otago Boy's High School has been fortunate to have Stevenson and Williams Ltd host two Gateway students this year.
In addition to Thomas, Logan O'Neill has also been on placement as you can see pictured. Logan has left Otago Boys' this last week to take up full-time employment with Stevenson and Williams Ltd. Logan will continue his building career having been accepted for the January intake at Otago Polytech to complete his Level Three Carpentry qualification. He will continue to be supported by this company.
