I had the privilege of speaking at a recent senior assembly about the upcoming NZ Blood Service donation.
I linked this to a fairly old fashion term but extremely important value to consider called altruism, which by definition is given as: "disinterested and selfless concern for the well-being of others."
For example, some may choose to work with vulnerable elderly people out of altruism, while volunteering to give blood is an example of altruism that our students can choose to do for our community, it is indeed a selfless act of service for helping others (up to three) who you do not know.
The following senior students volunteered to donate blood this year:
Matt Attenborough, Tom Bankshaw, Matt Begg, Cameron McFarlane, Tama McNamara, Hamish Morgan, Tim Orchiston, Simi Puni, Connor Purvis and Cheol Shin.
Thank you gentlemen.
