At lunchtime on Monday the gym was packed with students watching the first of the prefect vs teacher games.
Volleyball was a fantastic start to this year's prefect v teacher competition, with teachers narrowly taking the win this time.
The first set was won by a well-rounded prefect team, maybe giving them too much confidence going into the next set… The second set got off to an even start with both teams trading points. But, with a serving masterclass from Nick Sharp, sending missiles down at the helpless prefects and aweing the crowd, the teachers pulled ahead with a massive streak of points. Although followed by some impressive points of the prefects, catching up was impossible and teachers won the second set.
With the end of lunch approaching and the two teams tied on set points, refs agreed whoever had higher points by the bell would take the third set, winning the match.
The teachers carried their momentum through to the next set racking up some quick points and prefects were yet to pull themselves together. As the bell rang the teachers were up, 6-1, winning the third and final set.
It was a riveting game with a great crowd, both teams enjoying their time on the court, ending with handshakes, jests and smiles. Tensions between prefects and staff are high, and the prefects hope to even the score in basketball sometime soon.
