Kia orana tatau katoatoa. Greetings to our School House families and wider community. We hope you have had a great couple of weeks and are keeping warm as temperatures lowered this week around the country. Here are some updates and information.
Man of the Week - Week 3
Congratulations to Year 9 Cru Holland for his support of this mates around the hostel and to staff. He has a great attitude in all he does and gets involved in every opportunity available. Well done Cru.
Man of the Week - Week 4
Congratulations to Year 9 Max Smallbone for his great attitude around hostel and helping others. He has a strong supporter of the Hoops Army and this support clearly on display at the recent Semi Final for the OBHS 1st XV as Max showed his true colours and great outfit in honour of the Hoops Army and the team. Well done Max.
Dinner Swap with Columba College
On Wednesday this week our School House boys enjoyed a dinner swap with Columba College, with our seniors heading up the hill to Columba College and our juniors hosting the Columba College juniors. It started off quiet as our boys took time to develop their social skills, but once they got past the initial meet and greet phase, loud conversational sounds good be heard through out the dining halls. Added to this our Year 13s continued the tradition of a Netball challenge between the two hostels, with School House coming out victorious and holding onto the trophy that our boys won last year. Lots of fun and good conversations were had at both hostels.
Junior Social with St Hilda's
On Thursday this week our junior boys journeyed to St Hilda's for junior social filled with laughs, smiles, dancing, and a bit of further development with their social skills alongside the St Hilda's girls. It was a great night for all with even our Housemasters cutting some shapes on the dance floor. Thanks to some of our Year 13s who also helped with supervision alongside the the other hostel seniors.
Table Tennis Mitchell Cup
Mitchell Cup was up an away again these past two weeks with the Table Tennis Challenge. Lots of skill was on display as well as boys showing their house pride by filling in spaces where ever they were. It has been hotly contested. We still have some finals to complete this week and next. The current standings overall are as follows:
1 - Hawthorne
2 - Campbell
3 - Thomson
4 - Nicholson
Golf Day Fundraiser - OBHS Sport - 21st September
On Thursday 21st September we have the annual OBHS Sport Golf Day Fundraiser. All proceeds go towards Sport in Otago Boys' High School. We would love to have any teams or groups out in the community register and enter the Golf Day to help support sport at OBHS. Thank you again to Fowler Homes for your support of this event. We will also have a number of our School House hostel boys volunteering on the day with servicing food and activities for participants on the day.
Prefects vs Staff Volleyball
Great to see our School House hostel boys Hamish Leyser, Tony Tang, and Rota Lafita involved in the school prefects vs staff Volleyball match on Monday this week. It was a closely contested match with the Staff narrowly taking the match. Onto the next competition with Basketball on the horizon. Also good to see some of our staff involved too.
Sunday Activity
Our boys last weekend ventured to Ten Pin Bowling with some very skilled technique and some not so skilled technique, but none the less, lots of fun and competitive juices on display. This Sunday they are going to paint ball.
All Blacks Flag Bearers
19 of our our senior boys were given the opportunity to support the New Zealand Rugby Union and the All Blacks match that was held last Saturday at the Forsyth Barr Stadium. They also got to then watch the All Blacks Test match. It involved a rehearsal on Friday afternoon and then an early arrival to the stadium before the public arrived and a patient wait for their moment on the field. Our boys did themselves, their families, and our school proud. They all looked sharp in their full school uniform and held that All Blacks flag with honour. All the best to our National Rugby team as they now head away to the World Cup in France.
Well done to all our hostel boys who have been involved in playoff games these past few days and some more to come this week.
