The NABBA Southern Bodybuilding Championships were held in Invercargill last weekend.
Four students from Otago Boys' travelled to compete in the Teenage Men (Under 21) category, and ended up taking the top 4 placings of the competition. The event hosted 45 competitors and the afternoon show had an audience of just over 300 in the James Hargest College auditorium. The judging round was intense, lasting 12 minutes, whereas a usual round only lasted for 3-4 minutes. They ran us through the poses 3 times each until our bodies were shaking and muscles started to cramp up (close competition)!
It was definitely a unique experience, and talking to the more experienced competitors gave us lots of advice to apply to our future training. We trained hard each day after school, sometimes during lunch time or before school, and sometimes at 1am in the morning. We put in a huge effort sorting out food and micromanaging our eating so we’d have our best shot on show day. It's been hard work but enjoyable and a growing experience among ourselves and others we've trained with.
HOMEBREW Pre Workout from Hami Bennet (Propel Fitness) and Angus Workman (OBHS) came in helpful during our pump up and we'd like to thank them. Thanks also goes to Mike Tabb, Sam Sherburd and Angus Workman for the backstage support, as well as to parents for helping us get to where we are.
It was an awesome experience underneath the lights. Something completely outside of our comfort zone. Yeah Buddy!
