On Friday, Fortress, the combined choir of Otago Boys' and Otago Girls', embarked on a frosty morning drive to the beautiful Timaru to compete in the Big Sing Cadenza.
Cadenza is a big weekend of competition singing, workshops, and a bit of socialising.
With an early start, rehearsals, performances, and workshops, the days were full and demanding. We were fortunate enough to have Dr Andrew Withington, previous director of the New Zealand Secondary Students' Choir, to run the workshops, share his expertise, and conduct the fantastic mass items at the gala concert.
The combined choir performed very well and received a Korimako award, which is the second highest award. It was an awesome trip, and a fantastic group of students. It was great to see the different schools supporting and enjoying each other's performances, as well as having a bit of friendly rivalry with a certain school from down south.
The students represented OBHS and OGHS extremely well. It really is wonderful to have co-curricular activities and events like these where we get to team up with our sister school and work so well together.
