Tena tatau te whanau whanui Te Whare Kura. Greetings to our School House families and wider community. We hope you have had a good week. Here are some updates and information.
Men of the Week
Congratulations to Year 10 International Student, Mai Jearadisak, who has been a good lad around the hostel helping out, gets along with everyone, gives his best in his classwork, and also won the Best Dancer award at the Junior Social last week. Well done Mai.
Congratulations to Year 10, Robbie Nichol who has also been a good lad around the hostel and helps out whenever asked. Recently competed in a math competition finishing in the top 40% in New Zealand. Well done Robbie.
Sunday Activity
Our boys last weekend attended Paint Ball, with lots of laughs and competitive juices flowing. The Housemasters joined in to their own detriment as our hostel boys showed them no mercy at times if they were on an apposing team. Great fun was had by all.
Under 15 Blues Hockey Team - Division 2 Champions
Well done to our Under 15 Blues Hockey Team who won the Division 2 Final on Tuesday night 2-1 against Logan Park 1st XI. The team is made mostly of School House Hostel boys and coached and managed by Hostel parents Kat Nichol and Bev Helm. Well done boys and mum's.
Golf Day Fundraiser - OBHS Sport - 21st September
There are only a handful of spaces left for teams. On Thursday 21st September we have the annual OBHS Sport Golf Day Fundraiser. All proceeds go towards Sport in Otago Boys' High School. We would love to have any teams or groups out in the community register and enter the Golf Day to help support sport at OBHS. Thank you again to Fowler Homes for your support of this event. We will also have a number of our School House hostel boys volunteering on the day with servicing food and activities for participants on the day.
Security Cameras installed
New camera's have been installed in Campbell Dorm and the final ones are being put in Nicholson Dorm this coming week. It will allow us to monitor the boys safety further.
Gym & Weights Equipment to be installed in School House
Thanks to Head of Hostel, Hamish Leyser and the School House Committee, we are currently ordering some equipment to be installed in the McCaw Room for our boys to access. Hamish canvased the student voice and a majority wanted access to gym equipment in the hostel. It was recently decided at the School House Committee meeting to support this initiative. We are currently working with Ian from Elite Fitness to make this a reality. There will be certain processes for boys to complete once the equipment is installed before they can use the gear. Seniors will need to attain a "Licence to Lift" which is a same process at school, and Juniors will be supervised on set days and times with training on the equipment also.
