"Can you stand upon one leg" wins the crowd over as Year 10 Oban Voice sings his impressively long and high note all the way to gold.
Year 10 student Oban Voice took first place in the Otago Boys’ Talent Quest ‘23 Finals Round on 22 August at the senior assembly. Singing “Can you stand upon one leg”, Oban sang and danced his way through, even getting the audience to clap along with him. A true showman in the making. Taking out the top spot, Oban was awarded the Karl Van Betuw trophy, a $100 RockShop voucher, and 30 house points.
Looking at the rest of the contestants, Year 10 pianist Caleb Wayne perfectly played his way to second place, meaning the only 2 juniors to audition placed 1st and 2nd. The only group who auditioned Hold Up managed to place 3rd, meaning the other 2 contestants, guitarist Max Cutfield and singer Vansh Jaswal, tied for 4th.
A successful running of the finals, securing the backing from both students and staff, sets up the talent quest in a good space to continue to run for the years to come to help promote performing arts within the school and show off all the hidden talents within the student body.
A big thank you to The RockShop Dunedin for sponsoring the Otago Boys’ Talent Quest ‘23, we genuinely could not have done it without them. So be sure to make the RockShop the top of your list when shopping for all your musical needs.
A big congratulations to everyone who auditioned for the talent quest. The level of talent we saw at every stage of this competition was amazing.
