This year for Gateway I had the opportunity to do plumbing with Foleys.
It has been a great experience working with Foleys each Friday. During this time, I have been taught how to find leaks, put in new piping, and also solve drainage problems. Every week I have been with different staff members who have been great teachers helping me learn new skills and tricks. While working at Foleys, I have been given the opportunity to work on new residential buildings under construction, existing houses, and big commercial projects.
My favourite part of plumbing would be tied between drainage and preparing new buildings. When I was working with the drainage crew, I went on site to the new Kiwi Rail development on Hillside Road. This experience included working around big industrial machinery and different types of subcontractors and meeting new people. While working there we were fixing a water main that needed to be rerouted. It took all day to put in a new water main and connect the pipes. On new domestic builds, I have learned to figure out where to run the pipes down the wall. What I enjoy on new builds is seeing the house you worked on progress from under construction to finished, and knowing you have been a part of it.
I am enjoying my Fridays off timetable to have this experience.
