From Thursday, 24 to Sunday, 27, Teddy Finney-Waters, Luke Woo, Lochie Ing-aram, and Caleb Wayne had a big weekend performing in a variety of categories in the Dunedin Performance Arts Competitions Society Instrumental Festival and Vocal Competition.
Teddy had a very successful competition in six different categories. He achieved:
1st - National Song
1st - Sacred Song
1st - Aparima Award
1st - Regent Theatre Recital
2nd - Test Song
3rd - Vocal Solo
Teddy was also the 16-18 scholarship recipient and received the Musicality and Artistry award.
Year 12 student, Luke Woo, entered four categories in the instrumental festival as a pianist. Luke did extremely well in a competition that included a number of very high calibre performers in the 16 and over age bracket. Luke achieved: 1st - Contemporary Solo, 1st - Own Selection, 1st - Baroque Solo, 2nd - Classical-Romantic Solo.
Luke was also the winner of Celebration of a Century Cup for highest aggregate in Baroque and Contemporary.
Two Year 10 students, Lochie Ing-aram and Caleb Wayne, also had success in the U16 competition. Lochie won first place in the Instrumental Ensemble and Highly Commended in Popular Solo. Caleb won first place in the New Zealand Composition category, and was Highly Commended in the Test Piece and Own Choice.
It was fantastic to see these four boys competing at a high level. So much time goes into preparing these pieces with such attention to detail. They then need to get it right on the day under the pressure of competition.
