Despite a poor weather forecast, the 12ODR cycle trip to the MacKenzie District had largely fine and favourable conditions.
Any rain fell overnight, and despite one hard day riding into a headwind, the boys were more at risk of getting sunburnt.
The trip was something the boys had been planning and preparing for throughout the term. Four groups, from the two Outdoor Education classes, took a turn leading a day on sections of the magnificent Alps to Ocean Cycle Trail. Each group had to provide a morning briefing, take leadership and responsibility for the riding group that day, and produce an evening meal (and dessert). They were then given feedback by the rest of the group in a post-ride debrief.
There were plenty of learnings throughout the week, but overall the boys did a fantastic job. They now return to class to evaluate the execution of their plans as part of an internal assessment.
