Reaching new heights

Term 3 has seen OBHS climbing go from strength to strength.

21 boys have spent every Tuesday afternoon at Resistance climbing getting stronger and with noticeably improvements in technique. The support they give each other to try and succeed on harder and harder boulder problems is wonderful to see.

The past three weeks have been especially busy. Luca Verheul and Will Workman took part in the two day SISS Climbing competition in Christchurch with their team placing in the top third - an outstanding effort for their first attempt. Three boys took part in the final round of the National Indoor Bouldering Series with Luca placing 6th in the U16 division, which is a great result.

Over the past fortnight a group of 10 have learned how to use ropes to safely belay each other while climbing outside. A massive thank you to Tim Bartholomew and Dunedin Adventures for the instruction the boys really enjoyed and learnt from. The trips to Port Chalmers Quarry and Long Beach have been a real highlight.

Finally, the support of Mr Tim Adler has made everything so much more achievable. Hopefully, next term we will continue to grow and deepen our knowledge of climbing.
