Food and Nutrition has had a busy few weeks.
Last week Year 9 students learned about different knives and their uses. They used their knowledge and looked at different vegetable cuts, making a chicken chow mien. Year 10 students wrapped up their 'eating well' task, where they looked at making nutritious and balanced meals for a teenager. Sushi, poke bowls, pasta, healthy chicken wraps, stir-fries, smoothies, and pizzas were all on the menu.
A select few of Year 11 students joined Ms. Moore at Manaaki Restaurant - Otago Polytechnic last Thursday. This was hosted by the Bachelor of Culinary Arts students.
Bachelor of Culinary Arts first-year students showcased local food producers. They had to create foods using food sourced locally through and from The Otago Farmers' Market, other local suppliers, and or foraged foods. The third-year students created the sweets for the evening, demonstrating where their food journeys would be taking them post-graduation. It was a lovely evening and we would like to thank Chloe Humphries and her team at Otago Polytechnic for inviting us to participate in the evening. The students really enjoyed themselves and got a taste of what it might look like should they decide to take their love of food beyond school to a tertiary level.
