Basketballers head to nationals

The culmination of the 2023 basketball season approaches with the impending trip by our Senior A team having qualified 3 weeks ago, for the Secondary School Basketball Nationals.

This prestigious event is scheduled to take place in Palmerston North from September 25 to 30. It marks a notable return for OB's, as our last appearance at Nationals was in 2019 when we secured 23rd position. The absence of Nationals in 2020 and 2021, owing to the challenges posed by the Covid pandemic, and not qualifying in 2022, further amplifies the significance of this year's tournament.

Nationals represents an exciting opportunity for the team to compete against the best high school basketball squads from all across New Zealand. In the initial three days of the competition, the team will be competing in Pool C, facing opponents such as Mount Albert Grammar, St. Pats Silverstream, Nelson College, Fraser High School, and Palmerston Boys High School. Particularly noteworthy is the game against Nelson College, which is scheduled for Tuesday, September 26, at 7:30pm. This particular match will be broadcast live on the Basketball NZ website, accessible via this link: https://nz.basketball/tv. The matchups in the latter part of the tournament, spanning days 4 through 6, will be determined by the team's performance in the pool matches and the subsequent results.

To stay connected with the team's progress and outcomes throughout the competition, we encourage you to follow the Otago Boys’ High School Basketball Facebook page.

Participation in Nationals comes with a significant cost, so we extend our gratitude to all those who have generously contributed to our fundraising endeavours. Your support has been invaluable in making this journey possible.
