Winter is Lachy Geck's favourite time of the year.
That is when he can hit the slopes on his snowboard!
At just 13 years of age, he already has 7 years snowboarding experience behind him. This season has been one of ups and downs. Being knocked unconscious during a practice didn't hold him back though, and after an enforced break he came back even stronger and more determined to achieve his season goals.
Recently, his dedication and commitment to his sport was recognised at the High- Performance Coaching end of season awards where Lachy was the recipient of the 'most progression for the season' award.
Lachy spent the winter based in Wanaka training and undertaking his studies on-line. His hard work paid off with his best Nationals campaign to date. This competition was held at Cardrona Ski Field last weekend and Lachy came away winning bronze in the Slopestyle, 7th place in the Border-Cross and 9th in the Rail Jam. He is now ranked 6th in New Zealand for Boys' Under 14 Snowboard, putting him just behind the top 5 who all train in both the Southern and Northern hemisphere.
To top his successful season off, Lachy has been chosen to train with a New Zealand coach along with 3 other snowboarders in Colorado in January through until March next year.
What is Lachy's hope for the future? He has his eye on the Winter Olympics!
