A large group of 30 students headed off to the school Lodge for their 10O class camp last Friday.
With a favourable weather forecast we spent the first couple of days enjoying the sights of the East Branch on our overnight campout. Each group made a fair attempt of independently cooking their own meals using the Trangia stove and open fire before spending the night under canvas. River crossing safety and glacier spotting were features of the next day, before returning to the Lodge on Sunday afternoon.
Next day we rotated around five different activities. The kayaking was a highlight, and we were fortunate to have the expertise of Ms McNatty assisting us with that. Other activities included dam building and orienteering which led to groups 2 and 3 jointly being awarded the sour worms at the conclusion of the day for best team performance.
Overnight rain cleared for our final day, and we were able to make it along to Wishbone Falls where a hardy few braved the water for a refreshing dip.
Special thanks to the hard-working staff and the whole group of young men whose positive enthusiasm made the trip worthwhile and enjoyable. Hopefully they have all picked up some new skills and experiences that they will wish to develop further in years to come.
