Junior Fives champion 2023 crowned

On Wednesday, 29 November the 2023 Junior Fives champion was crowned.

After the round robin play was completed the four semi-finalists were found. 

Year 10 students, Eli Tucker (1) and Will Pyper (2) were pitted against two Year 9 students Mathew Campbell (4) and Mason Hansen (3) respectively in the semi-finals. However, the semi-finals produced two massive upsets with both Year 9’s prevailing. 

The final was a closely fought affair that was played in front of the entire junior school, with lengthy rally’s and plenty of points hotly contested. In the end, Mathew Campbell claimed a three-set victory 9-12, 12-8, 12-8 and with it the 1883 J.J.J. Mallard Cup for 2023. 

This historic Otago Boys’ High School trophy will be presented to Mathew at the end of year Junior Prizegiving. Thank you to all the supporters for getting along and supporting the players in the matches and a special thank you to the Rector Mr Hall for presenting the J.J.J. Mallard Cup for 2023 to this year’s champion Mathew Campbell.
