Athletics day

It was a day of all four seasons of weather, fantastic house colours and great participation across the houses.

The competition was fierce from the outset. Huge numbers lined up for the 100m and 200m. Each house across the board had at least 3 races for every age group with only the fastest 8 overall to qualify for the afternoon’s finals. This set the tone for the day in both field and track events with large numbers competing.

With the staff fully engaged measuring, timing, and recording results the house chants could be heard reverberating around the Caledonian ground. The huge numbers meant that the house relays would need to be completed at school along with the 3000m in order to get the final results completed.

For the second year in a row, a record fell to Ruben Karawana in the U15 discus with a throw of 40.33m (R.J.Dryden 38.08 1973). This record had stood for more than 50 years.

All students were competing to the best of their ability with house points on the line in all events. There was competitiveness, encouragement and lots of enjoyment throughout the day. Well done to everyone for the spirit shown and the effort maintained in the changeable conditions on the day.

In the end, Aspinall House are leading comfortably but Park, Saxton and McIndoe are fighting it out for second. Final results to follow after all events are completed.
