This week I am proud to introduce our library leadership team.
These young men have been part of our library team for most of their years here at school. By volunteering their time and energy to help make the library amazing, they are each a real testament to the “hand up, not out” philosophy of OBHS. This year they lead a team of over 20 student librarians. They also have plans for some exciting events throughout the year, and I am lucky to have them on my team.
Our student librarians are vital to the smooth running of the library. Each volunteers at least half an hour of their break time each week to look after the issues desk, re-shelve returned books, keep our shelves looking tidy, and help students find their way around the library. It’s also a great opportunity for them to develop a variety of skills and to be part of a supportive team.
A quick note about overdue books:
I encourage students to take responsibility for their own library loans. Library books are issued for 3 weeks, and I can always extend a loan if the book is needed for longer. Students with overdue books will receive email reminders as well as overdue slips from their form teacher. If a book still hasn’t been returned after a few reminders, then I will send an email to parents/caregivers. So if you are a parent/caregiver and you receive a notice about an overdue book, please know that your son should already be well aware that they need to return their book. If you have any queries about your son’s lending, please feel free to contact me by email at [email protected].
