Challenge Wanaka Schools’/Otago Secondary Schools’ Triathlon Champs

Despite a dire forecast, a light shower was all the students had to deal with, and the temperature was just right (including the lake) for racing.

This year we were represented by more individual athletes than teams with a group of eight boys participating in total. While being part of a team is great for the camaraderie and can be a good taster for what triathlon is all about, the real challenge lies in athletes completing all three disciplines. Respect to our four individual athletes!

The results were excellent with most boys making the podium (or close to it) and must have placed us very close to Mount Aspiring College for the best-performing school.

The South Islands, in Oamaru, is the next big event on the calendar.

Thank you to Jen Green and OSSSA for the photos.

Results:

Ruie Hyslop: 2nd U-19 Individual

Jonathan King (swim), Harvey Brown (cycle) and Hugo Barsby (run): 1st U-19 Teams

Henry Hodgson: 4th U-16 Individual

Leo Garden: 10th U-16 Individual

Robert Lloyd: 3rd U-14 Individual (even having to stop multiple times to put his chain back on!)

Bede Perkins: 4th U-14 Individual (a mere 15 secs behind Robert)
