A message from the Rector

Welcome to the Otago Boys' High School weekly newsletter, your best source of OB's information.

Our dedicated team, led by Mrs Gourley, make a tremendous effort to collate all of the exciting things our students get up to in a week. She also tries to add the information about upcoming events that we think you need. Between this, the school email service, our website and Facebook page, we feel you have a rich source of information about the school.

This week has been joyous. It started magnificently with our Powhiri for Year 9 students and ends today with our Senior Academic Coaching, a very important time for us to set the academic standard for 2024. I thank those parents and caregivers who were able to make this important meeting, it is acknowledged and appreciated.

As a school we have shown a real willingness to lead from the front and I have been very pleased with the efforts and attitudes of all of our student body. The uniform looks sharp, their smiles are contagious and there is positive buzz around the grounds. Seniors are willingly helping juniors and everyone, including those who are brand new, have had a great start. It helps that the sun is shining too. Long may it last.

This year is an important one for us, we are bigger than before with our highest intake of Year 9's at 191 and as a school we are over 880. This growth is a testament to what we are doing, and importantly we feel what we stand for. There will be challenges along the way; when aren't there, but if we all work together, then I am sure they will all benefit from a first class education. We have a number of building projects on the go, as we refresh and renew a number of areas in the school and hostel.

So, I'm very excited to have you on board with us. I hope to be able to talk to you all at some stage this year. Have a great weekend, I am off to camp with our Hostel Year 9's - it looks like rain!
