Greetings to our School House families. We hope you are enjoying the Otago Anniversary Weekend. It has been an active couple of weeks with many of our boys involved in lots of extra-curricular activities as well as their studies.
Men of the Week
Congratulations to Year 11, Gunha Park who was part of the Volleyball Blues Team that won the South Island 2nd Div title over the weekend. A great example of skill and effort. Well done Gunha.
Congratulations to Year 10, Sam Brophy who scored 50 runs on the weekend and was his 3rd 50 in 4 weeks. Great execution and skill. Well done Sam.
Congratulations to Year 9, Jesse Steel for being a good bloke around hostel, helping others when in need and checking in on his mates. A great example of School House spirit. Well done Jesse.
School House Committee
We have two vacancies on our School House Committee made up of staff and parents and we are seeking expressions of interest from our School House community. The committee meet around 5-6 times in the year. They also make decisions on how to spend the student levy for the betterment of the boys.
If you are interested in one of these roles please complete this google form link. https://forms.gle/dbzFidYZrJWseRNo9
It was great to be out in our wider community and attend the recent Wanaka Show last weekend. Thank you to all our boys and families who helped and supported along the way. Also great to see other families stop in a say hi, especially all our Old Boys, allowing us to reconnect and catch up on things. Our boys and parents who helped with shifts did a great job representing School House hostel and OBHS.
Formal Dinner: This is now on Tuesday April 4th from 5:30pm. This is the only event we have as compulsory each term for our boys to attend.
Parents Dinner: End of Term. We are inviting any parents who would like to come for a dinner on Wednesday 5th April from 6pm. This is an opportunity to meet up with other parents and get to know some of the wider School House families. We will send more information and a location once we confirm our approximate numbers. Dinner will be somewhere in Dunedin. If you are interested please email [email protected]
End of Term & Hostel Parent Interviews: The last day of term is Thursday 6th April. School will close early from around 1:25pm to allow for Hostel Parent Interviews at school. More information and interview slots will be shared soon. Please make sure your son/s leave is in before holidays.
Country Visits: These will now take place in the Week 2 of Term 2.As you’ll be aware the teachers were on strike on Thursday last week, and this current industrial action has had an impact on us being able to provide relief staff for those dates.
We are now endeavouring to book venues for 1st – 4th May and we will let you know the details as soon as possible.
We apologise for any inconvenience this will cause for some of you.
Year 8 Open Day: This is on Friday May 19th from 10:00am at School House Hostel. We will send details around the day as we get closer to the event.
As we are coming into a time where families are thinking about vaccinations, here is some information. Bexsero will be funded on the national Immunisation schedule from 1st March to help protect New Zealanders against meningococcal B disease. This will be Free for hostel boys 13 to 25 and it is a recommendation for close living situations which boarding school is.Flu Vacation'sWill be given in April for those parents that would like there son to be vaccinated. Please contact Janis if you would like to discuss or book. [email protected]
Our boys have been active with a number extra-curricular activities such as surfing, laser tag, ten pin bowling, and tag. Lots of fun had by all and some new experiences made.
Please remember to put leave in well in advance and before boys are to depart the hostel. We encourage you not to let your son/s ring you just before they want to leave as this is not fair on the duty staff and delays others being supported in other areas. Any issues with Reach please email [email protected]
